Working Out Morning or Night?

I was wondering if anyone knows if it is better to work out in the morning or at night.  I prefer to work out late at night like around 8 or 9, but my sister in law says that it is better to work out in the morning.  I was wondering if this is true and if so why?  I didn't think it mattered just as long as you were getting in your daily calorie burn.  Also another question... What is the best way to use protein powder (with water, with milk, before a workout, after a workout?) and can it make you gain weight?  Thanks! :)

  1. I don't know an answer for sure but I can tell you what I have noticed. I have a bodybugg (band you wear on your arm that tells you how many calories you burn through out the day) so I know how many calories i'm burning constantly. When I work out in the morning I burn way more calories throughout the entire day than if I wait until the evening, doing the same workout. I would suggest morning because of this, but it's what you prefer. I love going early in the morning because I can get it over with and don't have to worry about it the rest of the day.

  2. It doesn't matter. A calorie is a calorie is a calorie is a calorie!! My body also works best in the morning, but that's because I am a morning person and I tend to slack on my workouts at night, usually because I've just had dinner. Just do what works for you, you will not burn less calories at night unless you aren't working as hard. I use protein powder all the time because I don't love meat. It is always best to get your protein from an un manufactured source if you can, but protein powder is great as long as it's good quality and not full of sugar. Always take protein after your workout. The sooner you take it after your workout the better your body will benefit from it. No, it will not make you gain weight unless you buy one with a weight gainer or creatine in it. Most protein powders are good for both male and female, but a female should use about 1/2 the amount as a male because it can be high in calories if you use 2 scoops. It does not matter how you use it as long as you are getting the protein your muscles need. Water would be good if you are worried about calories, but skim milk is also a great source of protein so you could mix it with that. I usually make a shake in the blender. I will add a couple of recipes for you. I also add a scoop of vanilla protein when baking... pancakes, cookies etc.
